Food Service Coordinator
Mrs Anne Hobbs joined the staff at SVPC in January 2017 after the retirement of our church hostess, Rusty Andrews. Anne is a Birmingham native who has come back to her hometown after living for many years in Fort Worth, Texas. While there, she worked at a church for almost 20 years, where she planned meals, purchased food, prepared and served the Wednesday night meals and other special occasions. In addition, she prepared for Communion and set up coffee stations for Worship services.
Anne has been married to her husband, Toss Hobbs, for 37 years. They have four children and five grandsons.
Marilyn has been with Shades Valley for many years and has been Financial Assistant since the Fall of 2013.
Lana joined the staff of SVPC in November of 1995. Her family resides in Hoover and they enjoy regular trips to the lake and beach. They are life-long residents of Birmingham.
Kyle Henderson has been the Director of Music at Shades Valley for over six years. However, his relationship with this congregation began almost twenty years ago when he joined the church as a junior at Homewood High School. Always active in the music program, he was a member of the adult choir and handbell groups as well as an assistant director with the children's choir. Before accepting the job as Director of Music, he was heavily involved with programming for Wednesday nights. Currently he directs the church's Sanctuary Choir and Children's Choir as well as helping to lead other aspects of worship services as needed. He also currently teaches fifth grade at Oak Mountain Intermediate School in Shelby County.
Organist Ty Robert Thornton holds a B.A. in Piano Pedagogy and an M.A. in Piano Performance from Bob Jones University, where he was a student of Mr. Warren Mack. He also earned a Master of Music in musicology from Florida State University, where he earned the Certificate in Early Music and pursued doctoral studies in musicology. His post-graduate piano teachers have included Julia Benfer, Dr. John Salmon, and Robert Sherwood. He has studied both piano and harpsichord with Dr. Karyl Louwenaar, and organ with Dr. Ronald Sider. He has taught on the music faculties of Pensacola Christian College, the University of Alabama, and the Conservatory of Fine and Performing Arts at Birmingham-Southern College. In the past he has served as choir director and organist for Methodist, Episcopal, and Lutheran congregations.
Walt Moore started his work as facilities manager at SVPC in 2016. He has many decades of experience in both facilities management, construction and custom woodworking. Walt is highly skilled in keeping the building and its various components in good working order. He is a Birmingham native and grew up in the area close to Shades Valley Presbyterian Church.
